These are only samples of some of the
questions we are frequently asked. For answers to these and other
questions you may have, you can e-mail
Doug Lohrey
or call him at (303) 771-2480 ext. 224.
Who can use the services provided by
the Foundation?
Currently we service only churches and other religious organizations and we
are only ministering to other Colorado Southern Baptist entities. At the
present time we are not set up to invest monies that come from individuals and
we do not make loans to individuals. This may change in the future, but
this is our current practice.
Can
you donate stock to the Foundation?
We're happy to help you donate stock. For more information, call the
Foundation office (303-771-2480 ext. 224).
Is
the Foundation audited regularly?
Yes, every year the Foundation goes through a regular audit. We use
the same auditing firm as the Colorado Baptist General Convention and the
Ponderosa Retreat and Conference Center.
Why should we invest with the Foundation?
We know that you have the option of investing with a multitude of entities,
but we believe that we can offer you a unique option. When you invest with
us we will give you a good return on your investment, but you will also have the
satisfaction of knowing that your money is being used to further the ministry of
Christ around the state of Colorado.
How safe is our money?
Short-Term
Money Market
—This money market option allows a church to invest at least $5,000 at
better than bank savings account rates. The investor needs to
understand that the interest rate in this option may vary; in fact, it can
change daily. This option is a great asset for a church that may on
any given day need cash; but, in the meantime, may provide a good return on
the church's investment.
Fixed-Rate Investment
—This option allows a church to invest at least $5,000 for about one year up
to five (5) years, and to lock in a good interest rate. The initial
term and the interest rate will be agreed upon at the time of investment,
based upon current rates.
Long-Term Investment
Portfolio—This fund is designed for a church to invest at least
$5,000 for up to five (5) years or more. These monies are invested
with the Foundation's other long-term deposits. Under this option, the
church will earn the same interest rate as the Foundation's funds, minus a
small fee. For more
information, contact
Doug Lohrey at 303-771-2480 or
1-888-771-2480, ext. 224.
How do we get started in making an investment?
We have three types of investments.
One is a long-term investment (two years or more) and the other two are
short-term and fixed rate investments. If you would like to invest in our long-term
investment portfolio then you will need to read and fill out some paperwork.
If you would like to invest in our short-term and/or fixed rate investments, call and let
us know when you will be sending us this money. In all instances we
will send you a confirmation when we have received your money.
For more information, call
Doug Lohrey (303-771-2480 ext. 224),
Duffy Deardorff (303-771-2480 ext. 247) or
Kathy Karr (303-771-2480 ext. 248).
Why should
we borrow from the Foundation?
When you borrow from the Foundation you
will be charged a competitive interest rate, but you will be paying your
interest to a financial institution that will reinvest your interest payments in
other Christ-centered projects. Banks and other lending institutions are
in business to make a profit. We are here to help you meet your needs and
at the same time put your money to work within the Christian community.
How do we get
started in applying for a loan?
We have a loan packet that you will
need to fill out. Please call and talk to our Foundation office. We
will then send you the packet, in which you will be asked information about your
financial condition, current budget and other other pertinent information about
your building project. After you supply us with this information then our
loan committee will review your application.

How large of a loan request can the Foundation handle?
We cooperate with the New Mexico
Baptist Foundation to assist us with larger loans. In turn, we are able to
handle any sized loan and therefore the loan request still benefits the
Foundation as well as Colorado Baptists. There really is not a limit.
How do we
get to serve on the Foundation Board?
The Board is made up of 12 individuals.
We try to get representatives from around the state of Colorado. Each must
be a member of a local Colorado Southern Baptist Church. We try diligently
to find people who are working in one of these areas: investments, accounting,
banking, estate planning or real estate. The person must then be nominated
and voted on at the State Convention. These people are then asked to serve
on the Board for a three-year term. At the end of that term they may be
asked to serve an additional three-year term.

How is the
Board organized?
The Board is divided into 3 committees.
These include the Investment, Loan and Resource Development committees. We
have 4 individuals from the Board serve on each of these committees. The
chairpersons of these three committees comprise another committee, the
Administrative committee. Each committee functions in a vital activity of
the Board.
Can we come to a Board meeting?
Anybody can attend a Foundation Board
meeting. These Board meetings usually take place on the second Friday
and Saturday of February, May, August and November. The August meeting
is our retreat meeting. This meeting rotates around the state at
various locations. We try and visit a different part of the state each
year. As we visit each part of the state we plan to meet with a few
pastors and the Director of Missions for the Association in that area.
If the Board needs to go into Executive Session, then you would be asked to
leave the room during that part of the meeting.
How can we help the Foundation?
There are a number of ways in which you can help forward the productivity of
the Foundation. Here are a few examples:
1. Support your Foundation with donations of cash or stock.
Whether undesignated or designated, such donations are gratefully accepted
and used to help Colorado churches.
2. You can look to the Foundation as your investment institution.
Please look at all three of our long-term and short-term investments.
Investors will allow us to minister to other churches by having more funds
available to loan out.
3. Allow us to come to your church and give a presentation to your
church members about the Baptist Foundation of Colorado. Many of them
may not know that we exist.
4. Use us for your lending needs. Even though we do not have a
large sum of money we will do our best to meet your lending needs.
5. We have a Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning seminar which we
present. This will help you and your people prepare for the future. |
